Floor Screeding Services in Devizes, Wiltshire & Beyond

At FB Finishes, floor screeding is a core part of what we do. A flat, true and durable subfloor is the foundation for any new residential build, period property refurbishment, or preparing a large commercial floor for its final finish.

Get the screed wrong and every tile, timber floor and carpet laid on top will show the flaws. Get it right, and you’ll never need to be bothered about it again.

We supply and install both traditional sand and cement screed and modern self-levelling liquid screed (anhydrite). Our experts can assist with choosing the right system for your subfloor, suitable for your timeframe and how the finished floor will be used.

Our team applies bonded screed directly to a prepared structural concrete slab where a thin, hard-wearing layer is needed; unbonded screed where the subfloor calls for a separating layer; and floating screed over an insulation layer or damp proof membrane (DPM) as is the standard approach for ground floors where thermal performance and moisture control matter.

Every screeding project begins with proper substrate preparation: checking the structural concrete slab, confirming DPM placement, and assessing site conditions, before a screed pump goes anywhere near the floor.

We work to a mix design and thickness specification suited to the load the floor will carry, whether that’s domestic foot traffic or a factory floor built to take heavy machinery.

With more than 20 years’ experience across Wiltshire, Hampshire and Berkshire, we’ve screeded everything from single-room retrofits to whole-building commercial fit-outs, with flawless results.

Liquid Screed, Traditional Screed & Underfloor Heating Integration

Different projects call for different types of screed.

  • Self-levelling liquid screed (anhydrite) flows around pipework and reinforcement mesh, finds its own level with minimal help from a laser level, and typically dries faster than a traditional sand and cement mix, making it ideal for a project on a tight schedule. Its lower thermal conductivity resistance and closer contact with pipework also make it our first choice for underfloor heating integration, helping heat transfer more efficiently through the floor.

  • Traditional sand and cement screed, mixed to a standard ratio, remains a proven, cost-effective option where a thicker, more robust build-up is wanted, or where reinforcement fibres or mesh are needed to guard against shrinkage and cracking.

Every screed we lay is finished to the surface regularity your flooring requires, categorised under British Standards (BS 8204) as SR1, SR2 or SR3 depending on how flat and true the surface must be.

Tiling, resin flooring and thin timber finishes all demand a higher standard of surface regularity than a floor destined for carpet, and we specify and finish accordingly, using screed rails, power floats and trowel finishing techniques to get there.

We also build in details that prevent problems later: expansion joints positioned to accommodate movement, a de-bonding layer where required, correct primer, and curing compound applied to control the drying rate and reduce the risk of curling or surface cracking. Moisture content is checked before floor coverings go down, particularly important with timber and resin finishes that are sensitive to residual dampness in the slab.

Screeding Contractors Covering Wiltshire, Hampshire & Berkshire

Screeding is a job where craftsmanship, expertise and precision matter as much as the type or quality of materials.

Our experienced team uses a screed pump for efficient, consistent placement on both liquid and traditional pours. Laser levels are used throughout to keep tolerances tight across every square metre. This is essential on larger commercial floors where even a small deviation can cause problems for whatever is laid on top.

Every project is planned with proper construction sequencing in mind, coordinating with other trades on site so the floor is ready exactly when it needs to be, without holding up the rest of the build.

We work on projects of every size and type: new-build residential floors, period property renovations where old subfloors need bringing up to a modern standard, and commercial and industrial floors specified for heavy use.

Whatever the brief, we match the screed system, thickness and finish to the flooring that will go on top whether that be tile, timber, carpet or resin so there are no compatibility issues down the line, and no callbacks.

Based in Devizes, we cover Chippenham, Melksham, Trowbridge, Calne and the surrounding areas of Wiltshire, Hampshire and Berkshire. With 20 years in the trade and a reputation built on finishing jobs on time, on budget and to a high standard, we’re the screeding contractors local builders and homeowners always come back to.
